Good morning!
There was a tipping point here in the USA last night with the Presidential election and state races. The Republican party has not only gained the majority of representatives, but also it is projected, the Presidency. Congratulations to all the victors!
Tipping point? Yes!
Let's go back to Lekh Lekha/go discover yourself where the Patriarch Abraham had a tipping point in His life, when God called him to leave the Ur of Chaldees and go to a Land that would eventually be His inheritance (we're still waiting for that day to be completely fulfilled). History, in the book of Jubilees, tells us that Abraham was already a distinct follower of the One True God. He was opposed to Idolatry and hated by the WOKE Nimrod.
For Abraham the call to Lech Lecha/go out to find himself in his relationship with God was a seminal, tipping point moment; a point of no return. It was a necessary moment in his life to move him in the direction of complete and mature faith (Gen. 22; James 2:20-24).
By God's design, within the past year, many have been having these tipping point moments! And for many in my life, the tipping point moment has been renewed to press each person further into our walk with Him.
The Apostle Paul states that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17). This is a verse that's so familiar to us that our familiarity causes us to miss the reality of the verse within the Mt. Sinai context of the passage (Rom. 10:1-12; Deut. 30:11-20).
It's more than experiencing your denominational and cultural religion. It's more than drifting through the spiritual expectations placed on you by family. It's really about the moment God made Himself crystal clear. Where you knew He was speaking directly to you and you knew you had something to say to Him.
We're not talking about warming up a cup of coffee one degree at a time. We're talking about that seminal moment when your spiritual wilderness of drifting became an immutable moment of clear direction.
Paul's statement isn't a shortened version of a step by step Roman's Road approach to spiritual life. He's speaking of the moment when the sperm and the egg unite and there's an explosion of life that springs forth. He's talking about the Mt. Sinai experience where the voice of God was so clear it made you recognize your smallness within the scope of life.
He wants us to recall that moment when faith was more than the rational, step by step, apologetic, logic that has trapped so many of us in the evangelical and theological world...it's a tipping point moment!
Don't get me wrong, not everything is a tipping point moment. There is a process that produces a lifetime of experiences. That's why Paul states it's from faith to faith, the just shall live by faith (Rom. 1:16,17; Hab. 2:4; Heb. 10:38; 11:6,7). And it doesn't mean I can explain how it happened as if this were all about rational thinking.
However, as Abraham's seed (Gal. 3:29), we should have an undeniable experience that launches us into the rest of the story. Maybe this is why God never wants us to forget where we've been, take inventory on where we are and never forget the goal of our journey!
I'm officially back in Stanton, Michigan for 7 more weeks. There's new vistas to be discovered and I'm sure there are many more moments to come. I'm listening for that next moment of faith!
Shalom!
