Good morning!
The final youth night was a great success. Thanks to great planning from the youth leaders, the dynamic attentiveness and participation of the youth...wow, the Lord our God, was honored and lives were impacted!
Tonight, we have a big 'pot luck' supper to share testimonies, food and more love from God's Word. Tomorrow night is a very informal, but informative Q&A...prayers appreciated...then Thursday morning, day 5 of counting the omer, I'll be heading back to Michigan.
Speaking of God's Word, I have been asked recently about counting the Omer. What is it? Should we do it? Isn't that Old Testament stuff? Didn't Yeshua do away with that stuff when He died on the cross? Isn't that bondage to have to count to 50? Why do I need to discipline myself to count to 50? Isn't Pentectost/Shavuot going to come regardless of my counting? All kinds of questions and many answers that are filled with life transforming realities.
Today is the 3rd day of counting the omer. This is new to so many, but there's a growing number of people who want to demonstrate their love for their Cornerstone/even (Psa. 118:22; Isa. 28:16; Matt. 21:42; Jn. 14:15). So, let's take the time to see whether followers of Yeshua, the Messiah, members of His body (aka known as US :-) should or should not practice counting the Omer.
After the week of Passover-Unleavened Bread-First Fruits, comes Shavuot/the appointed Feast of Weeks. It is called The Feast of Weeks because in Leviticus 23:15-16 Yahweh tells us to count seven weekly Sabbaths from the first Sabbath following the Passover celebration and on the 50th day of counting it is the appointed day of Shavuot (aka Pentecost).
It represents an immediate Jubilee/freedom, and a prophetic Jubilee/freedom. By counting 7 weeks of 7 day counts, there is a spiritual reality that manifests in the lives of the obedient believers...so exciting! Then on the 50th day of counting, the day after the 7th weekly Sabbath, the special Holy Day is celebrated as the day of the giving of the Spirit, the Torah of fire from Mount Sinai and The Spirit at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem 50 days after Messiah's resurrection celebration of Firstfruits (Ex. 19; Acts 2; 1 Cor. 15:20).
We can count up to 50 just as the Disciples did. Christ's death didn't nullify this special 50 day period. After all, there is a reason they were instructed to stay in Jerusalem until the fullness of the Spirit would be made known (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4) and there is a reason, why Yeshua, our Savior ascended on the 40th day (Acts 1:9)...Why 50? Enquiring minds want to know :-) It was because they were counting the Omer just as Yahweh had instructed at Sinai 1,500 years earlier. They were counting -- counting the Omer/Sefirat HaOmer days up to Shavuot!!!
To whom also he showed Himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me." (Acts 1:3,4)
You can do the same and count up to the great celebration of a fresh revelation of the Spirit of God! And even though the Spirit was given in abundant measure in Acts 2, each year the Father is pouring out more and more of His presence into the lives of those who are seeking Him.
Count all the way to the 50th day and it will be Yahweh's Shavuot -- Pentecost Day!! It is the holy day count from the death of the Passover lamb - Firstfruits where the first born sons were delivered out of Egypt to the giving of the "Ten Commandments" at the base of Mt. Sinai in the wilderness. And in renewed fashion, it is the count from the resurrection day, identified in First fruits, to the giving of the anointing of The Holy Spirit to the Disciples at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
On the count up to Shavuot (Pentecost) Yahweh shows us that He gives all of us a second chance at salvation through Messiah's resurrection which is represented by the 50th day and another first fruits celebration of the wheat harvest.
This great promise is seen in the message of the wheat and the tares. The second chance at life is also seen in the Pesach Sheni (The second Passover found in Exodus 9) instruction and teaching from Yahweh as recorded in Numbers 9:1-14. This count of 50 days also marks the time between the barley harvest and the wheat harvest in ancient Israel.
Let's stop right there for today. However, the day of gathering an omer/a measure of daily bread for man (Ex. 16; Matt. 6:11) wouldn't be complete without a practical challenge :-)
As you head into this 3rd day of counting the omer and 3rd day of the week, live a 3rd day lifestyle of 'resurrection power' (Phil. 3:10,11). Ask God to reveal His presence to you more openly so you can live as light to the world more visibly :-)
Have a Yahsome Day!
Shalom
