Good morning!
The extra day in Florida was wonderful. Special visits, meals, Bible studies and lots of anticipation for coming back in 44 days to celebrate Shavuot. I'll be heading back to Michigan in a few minutes and want to wish you a happy 6th day of counting the omer!
Speaking of omer, let's keep rolling with more truths to help us prepare for a powerful Pentecost coming in 44 days :-)
After the first and second Passover (Num. 9:10-13), the next Biblical Holiday following the summer's Pentecost (Shavuot) is in the fall, it is Yom Teruah, the Day of Trumpets, the Day of the Awakening Blast. Because of the Messiah's resurrection and His connection to Pentecost, the counting of the Omer is an important participation for all believers as you count your blessings and ascend to greater heights spiritually.
This Feast represents the Biblical counting to the great Jubilee (Yovel) year. The Bible tells us a Jubilee (50) is the appointed time of release and return. It represents the revival of Eden - the fallen garden and the dominion of Yahweh with mankind. It represents the promise of restoration and the coming resurrection of the dead. It is the Jubilee of the King of the Universe.
We need to know, and hopefully we'll discover that the Counting of the Omer covers the jubilee of counting time until Shavuot (Pentecost) which is the 50th day. A day when we will experience release (from our past mistakes) and return (to all that the cankerworm has eaten (Joel 2:25)
Counting of the Omer is called Sefirat Ha’omer. It is the acknowledged counting of seven Sabbaths. On our physical calendars it is each of the forty-nine days after the first weekly Sabbath beyond Firstfruits; It is the 49 days leading up to Shavuot. Shavuot, or Pentecost as it is called by so many, is known as the Feast of Weeks. It is the Feast of the seven weekly Sabbaths of counting...do I sound like a broken record? Yes :-) The purpose for this emphasis is because God emphasizes it. Within that emphasis we will learn that there are 7 layers of preparation within our lives. Within each of those 7 layers is a physical preparation within our own spiritual lives. The more in tune you are, through preparation, the greater your revelation will be at Shavuot and Pentecost (Joel 2:28,29; Prov. 1:23; Isa. 44:3; Acts 2:16-18).
Leviticus 23 tells us how to count but there has been confusion for thousands of years through tradition. Believe it or not, the omer count confusion started with an ancient conflict between the Pharisees (who were not fair-u-see) and the Sadducees (who were sad-u-see) during the Maccabean era. More of their conflict is seen in the New Testament in Matthew 22:23-28 as we see the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection...they were sad-u-see!
The key to understanding the lesson in Matthew is that Yeshua quotes from the Torah, which the Sadducees, ironically, accepted as the basis for their theology. Fortunately, Yeshua did not get caught up in the controversy between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, instead He focused on the words of the Torah and that's what we need to do...live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4).
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matt. 4:4)
During the “Counting of the Omer,” we all “get to” count up to the Feast of Shavuot and with each day, we are actually participating in the growing expectation and anticipation of what THE BIG DAY many call Pentecost actually represents.
That is why the Bible tells us the Omer counting is an unchanging, eternal instruction (Lev. 23:15,16). It is an appointment and teaching direct from the Almighty One Himself. In our modern day we need to take a step back and re-read the Bible with the Omer Count in mind. Leading up to the 1st day of the Omer count, Yeshua appeared in the garden to Mary to confirm the future Pentecost day (Acts 1:3; 2:1).
That same day He also taught a significant truth of the Torah, at the end of the road to Emmaus (Luke 24; 24:25-27). Then on the next day, Yeshua appeared in the upper room when He appeared to the remaining Disciples to get them prepped for the upcoming Pentecost.
Fast forward to the 40th day of the Omer count, after He had substantially relieved their fears, He ascended immediately after His direct command to wait ten more days for the promise of the Father:
Again, let's look at Acts 1:3,4 "To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me."
Pentecost (Shavuot) is one of the big three appointed calendar foot feasts in Scripture (Ex. 23:14-17). The ultimate appointed place to appear is in Jerusalem. It is a day that aligns with the spring Passover salvation/deliverance and the coming autumn days of Tabernacling with The Lord God/Yahweh Elohim. It is a special day that He instructs us to not work for ourselves so that we can gather before Him for His gifts of the Spirit. It is the day of celebration of His Spirit (Ruach), the wind and life breath of our Creator.
In the beginning, Elohim breathed life, His Spirit into Adam. Since that time, nearly 6,000 years ago we see a progressive revelation and outworking of that Spirit in order to bring the restoration of all things (Acts 3:20,21).
"And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached to you: whom the heavens must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began." (Acts 3:20,21)
It is the only appointed day that Yahweh asks His people to actually count "up" to. It is not a countdown but a counting up. That is important.
Many people are coming to realize His appointed feasts are important to honor. The truth is they help us demonstrate our love for Yahweh. During these 50 days, we all have the opportunity of drawing nearer to His presence. It's done by walking in the step and rhythm of our Creator just as He instructed us to in the annual appointed "cycle" of His eternal rehearsal days, His Feast Days, so that we can "be near" to Him at the appointed time in God's plan of salvation and restoration.
We're on day 6, with 44 more to go. Let me encourage you to meditate on Acts 3:17-26 today. And think about your role in the restitution of all things. What are all things? Who is it that will be destroyed (Acts 3:23)? Will the earth be blessed with you, as the seed of Abraham (Acts 3:25)? Will you turn away from your iniquities (Acts 3:26)
After I pray for you, I'll be on my way to Michigan. Prayers appreciated :-)
Shalom, shalom!
