4.25.25 ~ 40 days after His resurrection (Pt. 1)
Good morning!
All three of God's pilgrimage feasts are agricultural by design.
The picture of the harvest in the Bible is amazing. Incredibly, both barley (Passover) and wheat (Pentecost) contain the eight essential amino acids that are regarded as essential for human life! They are: phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, isoleucine, methionine, leucine, and lysine...don't we feel smart :-)
In all of Scripture the number eight (8) moves us from the physical realm into the spiritual realm. It's often referred to as a new beginning and eternity, as we will see tonight on our zoom call in the Torah portion shemini/eight: "Does God judge us based on our heart: a deep dive into the death of Nadab and Abihu"?
Numbers are important in Scripture and so are the pure metals. In Scripture fifty (50) carries with it "deliverance and freedom" while silver represents "redemption". Have you ever noticed Leviticus 27:16 that connects the two?
"And if a man shall sanctify unto the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the seed thereof; an omer of barley seed (alluding to the season of Passover and unleavened bread) shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver." (Lev. 27:16)
For the enquiring mind, even the most obscure verses of the Bible alludes to Messiah Yeshua (Jn. 5:46,47)! Truly, God's word is amazing - every word has a meaning and purpose!!
For example, the three symbols of the First Fruit offerings are: 1) a burnt offering = total submission; the crucifixion death, 2) a meal/grain offering = Messiah's body given as the unleavened bread of life, and 3) a drink offering = Messiah's life blood given as a covering to approach God. But unlike the burnt sacrifice of a lamb or heifer, The Messiah lives as the First Fruits of eternal life. He has victory over death through his resurrection (1 Cor. 15). By His own words we know:
"I [am] he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Rev. 1:18)
These are truths many can deduce without too much difficulty. But, what about the 40 days that Yeshua was alive; during the 50 days between firstfruit and Pentecost? Are there any life lessons and practical truths for me to confirm my life these days?
Over the next several days, I hope to bring the counting of the omer to practical life for each one of us. The time between his resurrection and his ascension, those 40 days, are packed with power, purpose and preparation. Moments filled with divine restoration, instruction and commissioning! Was He consumed with doctrine? Good question!? These 40 days of counting the omer, His followers were scattered, afraid, unsure of what would come next; sounds familiar? Right now we are in a period of time where doubt is louder than truth. Many know how to celebrate Passover, Unleavened Bread, or Easter but don’t know what our Messiah did after this Spring Feast season. In the world desperate for clarity, identity and direction, the post resurrection days offer answers we forgot to ask, such as: "Why didn’t He go straight to heaven after His resurrection? Why did he keep appearing to people one by one? Why the waiting, the walking from place to place with the wounds still visible in his hands and feet?
Here’s a question for you, "if Yeshua had 40 days to pour into his disciples and you had access to that same truth would you lean in like a fly on the wall? Would you? Would you live differently? You never know who’s waiting for the truth in their own 40 day season. Let's begin.
He had just conquered death. He had just shattered the chains of the grave. The veil had been torn in two. His Father was satisfied and the New Covenant unlocked for the nation of Israel and the nations of the world. So what does the risen Savior do first? He doesn’t stand on a mountain and thunder his glory from the skies. Nope. He doesn’t call down angels to parade him through Jerusalem as the resurrected. Nope. Instead, He appears quietly, personally, and intimately. It wasn't first to a priest, a disciple or a Roman authority it was Mary Magdalene, a woman once possessed by seven demons (Mk. 16:9), a woman whose name the religious elite would’ve scorned. Yeshua called her by name, Mary, and with that one word, every shattered piece of her soul was gathered back together. She went from weeping to witnessing. She became the first preacher of the resurrection (Lk. 7:47). She was sent to tell trembling men I have seen the Lord (Jn. 20:18).
There are many individuals out there who know they have been forgiven of their 'demonic' past, but it's not until they hear their name from the resurrected Lord that they have boldness beyond the many that tremble.
Wherefore, I say unto you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. (Lk. 7:47)
On this 13th day of counting the omer, may each of us (and I'm sure it's all of us), listen clearly for our "name". Then, with confidence tell those around us with our words and actions (1 Jn. 3:18): He's alive and He's coming to see you. He's going to meet you where you are and use you to change this world in Spirit and Truth.
Where'd He go next? See you tomorrow!
Shalom on this 13th day of counting the omer!
