10.11.25 ~ One Messiah, Two Roles

Good morning!

During Sukkot 2025, here in Stanton, MI, we focused on identifying and clarifying who is the Messiah. So that, when the 'Yuckity yuck' hits the fan, we're not caught up in the deception. Over the past couple days we've identified Yeshua as the Messiah who bears the iniquities of the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Isa. 53:11) and we've identified Him as the Messiah ben Yoseph and Messiah ben David. Messianic believers read this entire passage as a prophecy about Yeshua.

Last night's zoom call: Conditioner and Shampoo all in one; One Messiah, Two Roles (Suffering servant, Exalted King).

Intellectually, this is great! But, is there anything practical with this for us? Enquiring minds want to know.

Isaiah 41-52 identifies "Israel" as "My servant". In chapter 52:13-53 the role changes to an individual. But, is there a lesson in it for us? Could it be the description of the role of God’s elect?  Is suffering a prerequisite to ruling with the King (Lk. 24:25,26; Rom. 8:16,17)?

Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! “Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” (Lk. 24:25,26)

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (Rom. 8:16,17)

Isaiah's famous chapter 53 isn't just about Messiah Ben Yoseph, it is also about us, the ones called to be like Him (Rom. 8:29).  We are also those who shall bear the iniquities of the nations.  Of course, we will not bear them in the forensic sense of removing their guilt before God.   Only Yeshua, God manifested in the flesh (Jn. 1:14), can do that.  But we are to imitate and live according to His character, we must also 'hang on the cross daily' (1 Cor. 15:31), accused but innocent, and say with Him, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do (Lk. 23:34)”  No man without the manifestation of the Spirit within can bear this crucifixion.

The real question I need to ask myself is: Am I willing to be like Yeshua?  Would I take upon myself His challenge to become His representative in this hostile world (2 Cor. 5:19-21)?  Am I prepared to die daily to the seductions of the culture and take up the cross (Rom. 8:36; 12:1,2)?  Then I will have to bear the iniquities of others (Gal. 6:1-4).  And, as the status quo reveals itself, they will not hesitate to heap them upon you.  Every sinner needs a sacrificial lamb.  Every man knows he must remove his guilt.  They are just looking for someone else to bear it.  Am I willing to be that one? Are you?

The man who wishes to avoid sacrifice on behalf of another will not find company among followers of Yahweh.  We know we are here to represent the triumph of mercy over justice and that will often mean we must pay the price so that the other can experience mercy.  In God’s plan, the innocent pay for the guilty.  If this is not what you wish, then you will need to find an exit.  But if you are called and chosen, each time you bear the iniquity of another you exhibit the love of the Father.  The joy of heaven is yours (Matt. 5:10).

Is it any wonder that the world cannot understand the actions of God’s people?

Shabbat shalom!
Alan
