10.13.25 ~ Don't Get Burned, Be Refreshed
Good morning!
As we prepare to start our studies in Genesis this week, it would be mindful of us to remember that the 'fiery law' was not invented at Mt. Sinai; since it reflects the character of God, it was woven into the fabric of the universe at Creation. And, contrary to modern day teachings, it is not just for the Jewish people.
“At His right hand was a fiery law unto them” (Deut. 33:2).
Why would His Torah/instructions be described as fiery, when God spoke to them from heaven (Ex. 20:22).
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. (Ex. 20:22)
During the Feast of Tabernacles and during this time in general, people love to be near a nice cozy fire. Fire is essential to life; whether it's on a microscopic level of catalytic reactions in nature or on a macroscopic level with a burning forest...fire is an essential to life. Even as fire is life for the world, so the words of Torah are life for the world. Fire: to close = hot crossed buns. Too far away = chilly willy. But 'baby bear' = is just right. So are words of Torah: as long as a man labors in them, they are life for him (Deut. 32:47); but when he separates himself from them, they chill his heart (Matt. 24:12)
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. (Matt. 24:12)
Just as fire leaves a mark on our bodies, so too does God's fiery law; distinguishing us, making us holy, from others whose lives aren't touched by His instructions. How is hris? Just look at their walk, their speech, their dress...very distinguishable.
Yet, at the same time, His Word is as the dew (Deut. 32:2)
“My doctrine shall drop as the rain. My speech shall distill as the dew as showers upon the tender grass”
(Deut. 32:2).
For those who celebrate Sukkot in the Messianic era, God will give them rain (Zech. 14:16). Rain is life. As with fire, rain is beneficial to some and burdensome to others. Rain at the wrong time can ruin all our hard work. Lack of it can be just as devastating.
As Isaiah 2 tells us, in a future day, when the Messiah returns, all the. nations are going to come to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob...the law will go out from Zion...no more war...death will be swallowed up...tears wiped away...surely his is our God that we have trusted and He has saved us (Isa. 2:2-4; 25:7-9)
And to this Law Yeshua wants us to make dsciples (Matt. 28:18-20).
Here's to new beginnings!
