10.2.25 ~ Jeshurun Mindset

 Good morning!

This is the most exciting time of the year! Isn't there a song about that? "It's the most wonderful time of the year (Trumpets, Atonement(s), Sukkot)! Yes, yes, yes.  It's the time where we are COMMANDED to be happy and rejoice  (Deut. 16:11,14).

On the flipside of that rejoicing coin are those whose heart has become fat, like Jeshurun (Deut. 32:15); experiencing all the goodness of God, but, through their lack of thankfulness and spiritual exercise they begin to grow thick, insensitive, and become obese in their faith.

“But Jeshurun/upright ones grew fat and kicked; You grew fat, you grew thick, You are obese! Then he forsook God who made him, And scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation. (Deut. 32:15)

They have become insensitive to God's ways. Yet, as always, there is a remnant of people who, like King David, delight in your law/Torah (Psa. 119:70).

Their heart is insensitive (a hard heart towards those in need; no compassion), like fat, but I delight in Your Law. (Psa. 119:70)

"The wicked man...“Though he has covered his face with his fatness, And made his waist heavy with fat, (Job 15:20-27)

They have grown fat, they are sleek; Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the fatherless; Yet they prosper, And the right of the needy they do not defend. (Jer. 5:28)

Similarly, in Jeremiah before the Babylonian captivity, we see how all these end time nightmares become a reality (Jer. 9:11-14).  Could something 3,000 years ago be warning us about our culture and the road we're on?

After the Babylonians took control, they didn’t destroy the land (at least not most of it).  What they destroyed was the production of the land, the people who occupied the land, the God-centered system of government that ruled the land, and the purpose of the land.

“I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a den of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.” Who is the wise man who may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it? Why does the land perish and burn up like a wilderness, so that no one can pass through? And the LORD said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it, “but they have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them,” (Jer. 9:11-14)

Why did this happen?  How could it happen? Will it happen again? Does history repeat itself (Eccl. 1:8,9)? It wasn't Flip Wilson's Devil that made them do it or Hollywood. It wasn't invading armies. It wasn't for lack of leaders or military strength. The people, in general, were only following the leadership of their civilization.  When the leaders abandoned the teachings of God, the populace followed—and that led to excommunication and punishment.  As the leaders go, so goes the country. Rut Row Scooby-Doo!

How could this Jeshurun mindset happen? They forsook God's instructions/Torah and went after the stubbornness of their heart (Jer. 9:14) They were a  people who stubbornly refused to respond to God’s instructions.

During this fall feast season of God's prophetic calendar, many have prepared from Pentecost, the counting of the wheat, the oil and the wine into the final 6th month of preparation. Celebrating, as a shadow, the return of our Messiah, our gathering together (Trumpets), the sealing and separation of judgment (Atonement(s), and the celebration for those who loved His Torah (Tabernacles).

We're in the last days. The question that enquiring minds want to ask is: Have I become like Jeshurun (Deut. 32:15-39)? NO!

Chag Sameach!
Shalom!
