10.26.25 ~ Noah's Six Sons?
Good morning!
As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the coming of the Son of Man...(Lk. 17:26,28).
Oftentimes this statement of Yeshua is focused on the negative condition of the world. And, as true as that is, there's a flipside to that coin...Noah's obedience to build an ark for the saving of his house (Heb. 11:7; Gen. 7:1-5).
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. (HEB. 11:7)
As the ole expression goes, anything worth building takes time and effort! Noah and his sons built an ark/teivah without all the modern day equipment over a lengthy time period until the job was finished. Shem/name Ham/hot Jepheth/to be open and let's not forget the other part of his genealogy/toldot These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a righteous/tzadik man and perfect//tamimin his generations, and Noah walked/halak with God. (Gen. 6:9) Righteous/tzadik Perfect/tamim Walked/halak
Together, these "6 sons" built an ark to save "his" family.
Many have emphasized that there is 'none righteous, no not one' (Rom. 3:10).
And within the context of Paul's statement in Romans 3, that is correct. However when it comes to righteous living the text of the entire bible would disagree; starting with Noah. And to add to the incorrect statement, even in Sodom there were righteous individuals (Gen. 18:23).
And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. (Gen. 7:1)
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it. (Eze. 33:13)
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. (Psa. 11:5-7)
The righteous/tzadik are those who walk in obedience to God's instructions.
Those who are perfect/tamim are those who, though they have failed in times past, they continue to press on into maturity/tamim; doing better than the previous time; ultimately without blemish. Which raises the question: "was anyone perfect in the Bible besides "Yeshua" and Noah?
For the nation of Israel God commanded them to be perfect, blameless/tamim (Deut. 18:13)
Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. (Deut. 18:13)
With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright/tamim man thou wilt shew thyself upright. (2 Sam. 22;26)
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly/tamim (Psa. 84:15)
Even the Corinthia church had individuals that were tamim. Huh?
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect/tamim (gk. teleios: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: (1 Cor. 2:6)
And how about those who walk with God. Can anyone really walk with God without walking in His ways (Amos 3:3)?
Can two walk together, except they agree? (Amos 3:3)
And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. (Lev. 26:27,28)
How did Noah build an ark to save his house? It took 6 sons besides himself. What will it take for us to build an ark ? It will take character/shem. It will take passion/ham. It will take being open/japheth. An obedient mindset/tzadik. A willingness to move past mistakes to wholeness/tamim. And finally, the desire to walk/halakah with God.
As it was in the days of Noah...
Shalom,
Alan
