10.31.25 ~ My Wife and My Sister

Good morning!

So much to say and so little time to say it!

This morning I woke up at my usual time to find myself consumed with Sarah and Halloween (two complete opposites). Many people understand and  know all the Torah portions from 'Lech lecha', 'Vayera',  'and 'Sarai' all deal with Abraham as the main character...but what about the woman who made it all possible? She often goes unnoticed in the narrative.

More on her tonight on the zoom call tonight, My sister and My Wife.

What do you think of when you think of Sarah? What most know of her is that she was barren (Gen. 11:30); used as a shield for Abram's protection with the title 'sister' (Gen. 12:13; 20:2); a desperate woman to aid her husband (Gen. 16:1-4); jealous of Hagar's pregnancy (Gen. 16:5) and removing her from her tent, twice (Gen. 16:6-8; 21:9-14); her mocking laugh at the news of her pregnancy (Gen. 18:12), the mixed feelings at Isaac's birth (Gen. 21:6); and eventually her death (Gen. 23:1).

Yet with all of these memorable moments, the Apostle Peter praises her for her obedience to her husband, whose daughters you are as long as you do well and are not afraid with any alarm (1 Pet. 3:6). Huh? Is Peter talking about the same woman that I was painfully identifying with this morning in my personal studies? Could there be more to the stories than we note at superficial glance?

She was quite a woman who endured incredible circumstances, in a culture that was unforgiving and filled with mockery, while walking with her husband during his lech lecha/go to yourself.  Lessons from her life encourage us to look beyond what we see superficially in the lives of people and recognize there's a lot going on behind the scenes at the discretion of the Most High (Phil. 2:12,13).

What if I told you that as the bride of Messiah, He also considers you as a sister (Song 5:1, 2)?

More tonight :-)

Happy preparation day and Shabbat shalom!
