11.26.25 ~ Lots of Empty Space
Good morning!
This week's Torah portion, Vayetze/he went out is filled with dreams. We often think of Joseph, the master of the dreams (Gen. 37:19), but he got his dreaming from his father Jacob. The difference between Jacob's dreams and Joseph dreams is that Jacob's dreams are revelations of his current situation, not something that’s majorly prophetic.I'm not sure about you, but when I think of a ladder, my mind travels along a very diverse road...what do you think of? A biologist might think of the structure of DNA. A construction man, or a painter may think of an object that allows him to go up and down the side of a wall. A bible scholar may think of Jesus/Yeshua (Jn. 1:51) or Jacob's ladder (Gen. 28:10-15). A businessman may think of climbing the corporate ladder. As you prepare for your Thanksgiving celebration, I'd like for you to consider, what makes up a ladder
Let me help you with the obvious and I'll leave the application to you :-) A ladder has a left side (representing the physical part of life), a right side (representing the spiritual part of life, and rungs that connect the two sides (representing...). It has a part that connects the ground where you and I stand to another object. The purpose of the ladder is to achieve something by going up and down, and with every step that you go up not only is there a new level, but there is a new perspective from where you were before. The one part of the ladder that I have often missed, however, is that a ladder is made up almost completely of empty space.
Have you ever wondered as you were trying to ascend to new levels or when you’re coming down from a specific moment in your life that your foot is always trying to find the next wrung, there’s a lot of uncertainty, isn't there??
In our previous studies, we have examined deeper layers of the life and times of Abraham, the man of promise, mercy and hospitality, and Isaac, the man of prayer, and now it’s time to examine the life of Jacob, and purposely identify with his characteristics that establish him as being the man of truth.
As you ascend towards the next wrung of your week and the next wrung of your life, I'd like to challenge you to think about your relationship to the ladder today.
And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. (Jn. 1:51)
Are you going to new levels where there are new Devils? Are you coming down from a place and trying to find your footing? Are you too focused on where you’ve been and experiencing fear of your new heights? Are you focused on your goal and reaching up to the heavens? Wherever you are, there is a lot to contemplate. Enjoy the journey experiencing your connection from heaven to earth.
Keep ascending higher and higher!
Shalom!
Alan
