11.5.25 ~ Scatter the Enemy

Good morning!

In last week's Torah portion, Lech Lecha/go to yourself, I shared how Eleazer and Abram defeated the four kings and rescued the loot and Lot. Was it 318 men or just Eleazer, whose name equals 318 in Gematria?  What did you think?

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. (Gen. 14:14)

As we head into this week's Torah portion Vayera/and he appeared, I want to give you something else to consider for your own edification and motivation. In Leviticus 26, the section that deals with the blessings that come upon those who keep God's Sabbaths, verse 8 tells us...5 of you will cause a 100 to flight and a 100 shall put 10,000 to flight and your enemies shall fall before you by your sword.

And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. (Lev. 26:8)

Hebrews 11:32-34 emphasizes the same thing with individuals whose value was much greater than this world.

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. (Heb. 11:32-34)

If we took the time to look through every story of where a single person, like a Samson, or a Phinheas, or the Apostle Paul won victories over the enemies physically or spiritually, we might be shocked at how often one person made a difference in this world!

Later in the second thematic chapter of blessings and curses, which come as a result of obeying His commandments, in the curses section...how should 1 chase a thousand, and 2 put 10,000 to flight except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up (Deut. 32:30)?

How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up? (Deut. 32:30)

Whether the actions are negative or positive, 1 or 2 can have a tremendous impact! Will you be the 1 or 2 (Matt. 10)? Will you be the one who causes the enemy to flee or will you be the one who flees?

Life can be intimidating. Circumstances overwhelming. But one or a group of five can kick some major bohiney on the enemy.

Fight the good fight of faith!

Shalom,
Alan
